NEW YORK, NY — More than 50 Musical Theatre students from the Escuela de Bellas Artes de Vega Baja, Puerto Rico, will travel to New York City this June as part of a special educational and cultural initiative organized by EL MUSICAL and Teatro SEA.
The visit coincides with the celebration of Vega Baja’s 250th Anniversary and the designation of the municipality as the honored community of the National Puerto Rican Day Parade.
As part of the experience, students will participate in a full day of activities designed to introduce them to New York’s professional theater community and inspire the next generation of Latiné artists.
The initiative is part of the mission of EL MUSICAL, a program founded by Teatro SEA to support the development, promotion, and future of Latiné Musical Theatre through mentorship, education, and the creation of new opportunities for emerging artists.

“Many of these students will be visiting New York City for the first time and experiencing professional theater at this level for the first time,” said Dr. Manuel Antonio Morán, Founder and Artistic Director of Teatro SEA and Founder of EL MUSICAL. “We hope these experiences inspire them to dream boldly, pursue their artistic passions, and recognize that there is a place for their voices and stories in the future of American theater.”
Dr. Morán, a native of Vega Baja, has worked closely with the Municipality of Vega Baja (Hon. Marcos Cruz Molina, Mayor) to help create opportunities for the students participating in the trip.
“It is a privilege to serve the young people of my hometown,” said Morán. “This initiative reflects exactly what EL MUSICAL was created to do: connect young artists with opportunities, mentors, and experiences that can change the course of their lives.”

The students will participate in the National Puerto Rican Day Parade on Sunday, where Vega Baja will be recognized as the honored municipality during the celebration of the town’s 250th anniversary.
Teatro SEA and EL MUSICAL extend their deepest gratitude to all collaborators who helped make this experience possible, including the Municipality of Vega Baja, R.Evolución Latina, Luis Salgado, Denisse Ambert, Natalia Nieves, MOME, Commissioner Rafael Espinal, Carla Hoke-Miller, Museum of Broadway, Luis Miranda, Jessica Seley, and Vineyard Theatre.
