Dive into the laughter-filled chaos and unexpected romance as
Un sueño de telenovela (Telenovela Dreams) unveils the captivating universe of telenovelas.
Crafted by Manuel Antonio Morán and brought to life with lively compositions by Jaime Lozano and Manuel Calzada,
this musical weaves together three enthralling storylines that dance between reality and the dramatic fiction
of iconic Latin telenovelas.
Set against the backdrop of a bustling television studio, the story unfolds through three intricately interwoven plotlines. First, we meet Doña María, a devoted telenovela fan whose wildest dream comes true when she wins a contest to visit her favorite show’s set. Simultaneously, behind the scenes, we delve into the complexities of telenovela production, revealing the amusing interactions and rivalries among the cast and crew.
In addition to the vibrant cast and crew, the studio is ruled by the formidable Doña Beatriz, the diva of the cast. Loved by audiences as the evil villain on screen, she’s also notorious for her mean demeanor off-camera. However, when Doña Beatriz suddenly dies of a heart attack in the dressing room, the director and makeup artist hatch a plan to secretly replace her with Doña María, who bears an uncanny resemblance to the deceased actress. Hesitant at first, Doña María reluctantly agrees to step into the role, setting the stage for a series of uproarious events and unexpected revelations.
As the characters’ dreams and aspirations entwine with the telenovela plot they’re crafting, the creative process unfolds with both hilarity and depth. The musical numbers accentuate key moments, including the unexpected romance between makeup artist Javier Ernesto and the young lead actress Cinde, leading to surprising revelations and uproarious misunderstandings.
In the second act, the plot takes an even more riotous turn as Doña María assumes the role of protagonist, challenging the conventions of traditional telenovelas. With revelations about characters’ true identities and unconventional twists, the storyline builds to a climactic finale that defies audience expectations and leaves them both intrigued and satisfied.
“Telenovela Dreams” offers a refreshing take on the Latinx musical landscape, blending humor, romance, and suspense into an exhilarating theatrical experience.
